Peoria city manager is finalist for Texas job

PEORIA -
Citing family as paramount, City Manager Scott Moore is popping his head to Texas, where he is one of three finalists for the same position in the city of San Marcos.
The announcement comes just lower than a 12 months after a quiet-natured Moore started his tenure in Peoria, arriving at a time when council members and administrators were scrambling to search out methods to resolve a $10 million deficit. Since then, Moore planted roots in Peoria, even buying a historic house in May.
"I benefit from the challenges that we are working by way of in the metropolis of Peoria, and it is also humbling to be approached by other communities who imagine you possess the qualities that could be an asset to their organization," Moore, 39, stated in a ready statement. He was out of town Thursday and unavailable for comment.
But the deal will not be sealed in Texas until the Metropolis Council names a finalist by Oct. 1.
Mayor Jim Ardis said he was "surprised" to learn Moore is searching for one other job. "I do know that there are family concerns, and I respect him for preserving his household his No. 1 priority. San Marcos would be getting a good person if they provide him the job."
Alma Brown, town of Peoria's communications manager, said Moore has been sought out by other communities; nonetheless, this location would permit him to be nearer to family.
San Marcos is a university town (Texas State) with about 50,000 residents. It is located between San Antonio and Austin.
The three finalists, including Jeffrey Howell, city manager of Kilgore, Texas; and Jim Nuse, metropolis manager of Round Rock, Texas, will conduct a second round of interviews with the Metropolis Council and a public meet and greet on Wednesday, in response to a San Marcos news release.
Moore took over as Peoria's fifteenth metropolis supervisor in September 2009 after an in depth search by the City Council, which started after Randy Oliver left Metropolis Corridor in February 2008. Henry Holling served as interim supervisor until Moore was hired.
Moore was selected as the brand new manager largely because of his financial background. His annual wage is $165,000. The town already has warned of a potential $10 million to $14 million deficit subsequent year.
Before Peoria, Moore was the assistant metropolis supervisor of Wichita, Kan., since 2005. He beforehand served as the town administrator of small town Ellsworth, Kan., and as a price range and financial analyst in Austin, Texas.
His bachelor's degree in business administration is from Southwest Texas State College, now Texas State.
San Marcos' former metropolis manager, Rick Menchaca, had been within the job since April 2008 until he was fired in June, although council members by no means gave an explanation. His most up-to-date annual performance analysis revealed some criticism of his administration fashion and stated morale among city employees was low, based on the Austin American-Statesman.
The interim metropolis manager is Laurie Moyer, who indicated she won't apply for the permanent place, according to the newspaper. A field of sixty seven applicants utilized for the position.
